Trump Iran: US-Iran Tension, Military action and Trump’s Statement

Trump Iran

Washington, D.C., 26 January 2026: Tensions between the US and Iran have flared up again. Last year, in June 2025, the US carried out a military strike on three Iranian nuclear sites, with the American military firing 30 Tomahawk missiles from submarines and attacks by B-2 bombers. President Donald Trump described this attack as a ‘spectacular military success’. In response, Iran launched a missile attack on an American base, injuring US soldiers.

US has deployed Naval and Air assets to the Middle East
As of January 2026, the US has deployed naval and air assets to the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group, which includes Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Tomahawk missiles, has been redirected from the South China Sea to the Gulf. President Trump said on 23 January, “We’re watching Iran. We have a big force going towards Iran,” and “And maybe we won’t have to use it. We have a lot of ships going that direction. Just in case, we have a big flotilla going in that direction, and we’ll see what happens.” He said that Iran knows what we want, and there will be heavy fighting there.

Senior Iranian official said
A senior Iranian official said that any attack would be responded to as a ‘full war’. It’s being reported that over 5000 have died due to protests and crackdowns in Iran.

Possibility of political discussions by the US
These developments have made the situation in the Middle East even more delicate. Trump also mentioned that there might be a possibility of political discussions by the US, but military options are open. World leaders have called for peace and dialogue.
